Murdoch will start the semester with "O Week" (or "Orientation Week") to help you get started at Murdoch University and to become settled with your new life in a new country. Murdoch International Student Association (MISA) will also be running events throughout the week. This is a great way to network and meet the 1,500+ international students who currently attend Murdoch. During the semester, MISA also subsidizes a 10-day Northwest Territory camping trip to the "outback" which includes a visit to Monkey Mia at Shark Bay, a trip to Ningaloo Reef, and hiking in the gorges of the Hammersley Ranges.
Additionally, Murdoch University has what is called the Student Guild. Besides representing different aspects of student lives, the group is also host to various clubs and activities on campus from sports clubs to business and environmental science clubs to the Buddhist Society and Chorale and Theater groups. Murdoch University also prides itself on its beautiful campus which won the Western Australian Civic Design Award for architecture. On campus, there is also a fully-equipped gymnasium on campus, squash courts and playing fields, a 24-hour open library, tavern, travel agent, two banks, Guild Shop and a number of cafes.
Housing is available on campus in the Student Village, which consists of a number of self-contained flats with 4 - 8 study / bedrooms in each flat. Each flat also has a kitchen and two bathrooms. Like American Universities there are Resident Assistants along with Assistant managers and Resident Supervisors who are there to support you. There are no dining halls, but there is a food court on campus which includes a cafe and tavern. There are also a number of vending machines, providing drinks, snacks and frozen meals around The Village. The Village also has a Resource Center-Computer Room. There are numerous ways to stay relaxed and fit in the village as well, including a courtyard, greens, and recreation rooms. Students not housed in the Student Village will be assisted in finding off-campus housing. While the university will assist you, keep in mind that you will most likely have to arrive 2- 4 weeks earlier.
Murdoch University is only 11 minutes by train from the city center of Perth, the capital of Western Australia.
