CIW Community Schedule

Below is updated for August 2011, however additional changes may occur.

9:00 am - 3:30 pm: New Student Check-in and Move-in

3:30 pm - 4:00 pm: Residence Hall Meeting (Oneida, Onondaga, and Cayuga Halls)outside the front doors of the hall.

4:00 pm - 4:30 pm: Residence Hall Meeting (Seneca and Mohawk Halls) outside the front doors of the hall for Seneca; in the Mohawk Great Room for Mohawk.

Come meet your Resident Director (RD), Resident Assistants (RAs), Welcome Back Crew, Resident Computer Consultant (Res Con), and your fellow residents. This is your chance to find out what you need to know to have an exciting and enjoyable year in the residence halls.

4:30 pm - 5:00 pm: Floor Meetings/Social

See building for locations

Get to know your floor mates and your RA. You will gain a better understanding of the ins and outs of your residential area, building, and floor. Plus, you can ask all the questions you may not want to ask when the upper classmen are here. This is your time to ask anything from, “How do I read my class schedule?” to “What can and can’t I do in the halls?”

5:00 pm - 5:20 pm: Walk to Convocation as a Community  

Meet in CIW Courtyard with your RA

5:30 pm - 7:00 pm: Convocation

Receive your official welcome to the Binghamton University family. C. Peter Magrath, President of Binghamton University, will address the entering class. President Magrath's address will be followed by this year's Keynote Speaker, Arel Moodie.

7:00 pm - 8:30 pm: New Student Picnic

Peace Quad

8:30 pm - 10:00 pm: Leadership Information Sessions

Mohawk, Cayuga, Onondaga, Seneca, Oneida

Head down to your building lounge to meet with Resident Assistants and current CIW Area Council Representatives to discover what it takes to be a leader in your hall!

 10:00 am - 11:00 am: Academic Questions...Problems...Confusion?

Wonder what all those letters and numbers on your schedule mean? Your area Resident Assistants will be available to answer any and all of your questions!

1:00 pm: Academic Tours

Departing from the front of your hall at 1pm sharp!

Let our WBC help you figure out and see where all of your classes are this fall. The tours will consist of a tour around "The Brain" where our experienced students will show you all of the academic buildings, our athletic complexes, theatres and student facilities.

2:30 pm - 4:00 pm: Transfer Student Meeting and Social

CIW Commons (above the CIW Dining Hall)

Transfer students - come get your free survival kit/goodies, meet fellow transfer students, find out information that pertains just to you and meet with your transfer mentor!

4:00 pm - 5:00 pm: New CIW Area Office Open House

Cayuga Hall

Come see where the CIW Area office is....moved from its previous location in the Tuscarora Building.  Staff will be on hand to talk about what resources and questions the area office staff can answer.

4:30 pm - 6:30 pm: College in the Woods Opening Barbecue

CIW Courtyard

Come meet new people and grab a bite with fellow CIW-ers.

9:00 pm: Late Nite Binghamton

University Union

1:30 pm - 5:00 pm: CIW Co-Rec Sports

CIW Community

Come join in a "pick-up" game and introduce yourself to the CIW Co-Rec tradition. Check out the Co-Rec Field, Basketball Court, and the Volleyball Court.

5:30 pm - 7:00 pm: Fresh Start with the Faculty Fellows

CIW Commons (Above Dining Hall)

Do you have questions? Wonder what the professors are like? Come and meet CIW's Faculty Fellows and the Faculty Master, Dr. Tony Preus. Have an informal chat with some teachers. Believe it or not, they are people too and love the opportunity to get to know students better.  After dinner refreshments and snacks will be served!

7:00 pm - 8:00 pm: Floor Meeting

Meet all the residents on your floor, both new and returning, and discuss important aspects of living together on the floor.

8:00 pm - 9:00 pm: CIW Council Information Social

CIW Commons (above the CIW Dining Hall)

The Executive Board of the CIW Council would like to invite you to a social! Come join us to learn about community government! Learn about what positions are available, responsibilities, and what the Council election timelines will be. Enjoy free food and drinks while learning how you can make a difference in your community! If you are at all interested in holding a community government position or a hall government position, attendance at this event is strongly encouraged. ALSO COME OUT AND GET A CHANCE TO BUY YOUR CIW T-SHIRTS!
