THE DOUBLE MAJOR IN PHILOSOPHY

Because philosophy emphasizes critical analysis as well as the search for meaning, it is an excellent complement to many other fields of study. Indeed, philosophy has a crucial role to play within many other fields, such as economics, psychology, law, politics, literature, physics, and linguistics, since it asks fundamental questions, evaluates methodological assumptions and brings in questions of value.

Students who are double majoring in philosophy have to complete eight (8) courses in philosophy as well as the requirements for another major. Double majors have to meet the same kind of requirements as single majors.  However, double majors have to take at least four courses in the 300-400 levels. One course from Group B, one course from Group C and two courses from Group D.  See Philosophy Requirements Checklist (pdf, 92kb).
