Custodial & Expediting Services

Custodial Services provides routine cleaning for academic, administrative, and residential communities. Another key aspect of custodial services is event support. Our custodial crews provide set-ups and tear-downs for internal and external campus events.

Services encompass regularly scheduled routines and special projects. Non-scheduled work is generally billed to the requesting department. More information about chargeable and non-chargeable services is detailed below.

Mark Allen is Building Services Manager. He oversees Physical Facilities custodial, expediting and special events services. He can be reached at 777-2497.

State Buildings

Most state buildings are cleaned 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. beginning 11 p.m. Monday through 7 a.m. Saturday morning. However, the following state buildings are cleaned by a second shift crew that works from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Public areas including classrooms, lecture halls, restrooms, main corridors, lobbies, stairwells, laboratories and locker rooms are cleaned daily.

Disposing Food/Perishables

Due to staffing restrictions, offices are not cleaned daily. Faculty, staff and students should dispose of perishables in kitchen, bathroom, or hallway receptacles which are emptied daily. Building dumpsters may also be used for disposal of perishables.

Weekends

There is limited custodial staffing on weekend who survey and clean buildings and other areas that remain in use on Saturday and Sunday. In addition, they make sure everything is in order for classes beginning Monday.

Recycling

Staff and faculty should also continue to deposit all recyclable material in the blue bins located in the hallways of buildings. More information about recycling is available here.

Disposal of Computers Owned by BU

Computing Services handles the disposal and/or recycling of BU owned computer equipment. For more information about the process visit http://administration.binghamton.edu/procedures/400series/410.htm

If any of these areas are in need of supplies contact the Physical Facilities Customer Service Center at 7-2226 or pfcsc@binghamton.edu. Physical Facilities is not funded to supply laboratories, departmental kitchenettes etc. with supplies. Paper towels may be purchased through the Customer Service Center at a charge.
