Lecture Hall Renovation- Summer 2010

"Sustainability" will be the theme of Lecture Hall renovations scheduled to take place in the summer of 2010.  The four quadrants of the Lecture Hall will embrace the different seasons using environmentally friendly materials such as recycled resin panels, low VOC paint and energy efficient lighting and windows.  The project will address a number of critical maintenance issues through asbestos removal and replacement of windows and flooring.

In addition to renovation of the concourse area, some of the Lecture Halls will also be upgraded. Lecture Halls two and seven will see improvements next year. Landscaping outside the Lecture Hall is also included in the project. Some exterior work is already underway this summer with upgrades to the south entrance of the Lecture Hall.

In summer 2009, flooring in the aisle areas of Lecture Hall 1 was replaced.  Next summer, new flooring will be installed in remaining areas of Lecture Hall 1.  Lecture Hall nine was also renovated this summer.

The renovations next year are scheduled to take place in two major phases following Commencement in May 2010. At least half the facility will remain in use. The phases are illustrated in this concourse renovation document. While many project details are developed, the total scope of work is still a work in progress and the plan may change a bit as as the design is finalized. The renovations will be substantially complete for the fall 2010 semester.  Contact Michele Deskin with any questions at 777-5204.

The Lecture Hall was constructed in 1968. Modest renovations have taken place in the building over the years, but the concourse area has not been updated in many years.  The Lecture Hall is an important "first impression" campus facility used not only by students but by the general public as well.  It is heavily used for Orientation and Commencement. The whole idea for the project stems from the need to continue to blend critical maintenance with the desire to increase the campus quality of work life and enhance the general environment, both indoors and outdoors.
