Materials Science Engineering

Materials physics is concerned with understanding important physical phenomena in technologically relevant materials systems.  Examples include the solidification and thermomechanical response of lead free solders; new thin film transistor materials for flexible electronics;  transparent conductors for display, photovoltaic, and flexible electronics; and exotic thermoelectric materials for waste heat energy scavenging.  Students interested in this area of study may pursue advanced degrees in either Materials Science and Engineering or Physics.

Professors engaged in this field of study are E. Cotts, S. Levy, L. Piper, M. Suzuki, and B. White.
