Innovation @Binghamton.edu

S3IP performs high-impact research that supports the translation of economically significant innovations; e.g. new electronic materials, advanced manufacturing, thermal management, environmental sensors, flexible electronics, medical diagnostics, solar power, and systems integration, to our nation’s industries. S3IP, with over 30 BU-affiliated faculty and staff, and 30 industrial partners, serves as an effective interface between academia and industry and is a platform from which to encourage multidisciplinary intellectual exchange on the academic role in innovation.

The development of an “Innovation culture” includes not only research and invention, but the enabling of an ecosystem where new ideas are fostered and an ongoing dialogue among all key participants in the movement of novel ideas into the marketplace is facilitated. S3IP (together with the Office of Technology Transfer and Innovation Partnerships) is currently developing a new multidisciplinary initiative whose goal is to enhance the status and visibility of innovation as a component of Binghamton University’s research, education and outreach culture. The Binghamton Innovation Program seeks to enable an intellectual dialogue on various aspects of innovation.
