S3IP Undergraduate Research Initiative

The Small Scale Systems Integration and Packaging Center (S3IP) announces support for undergraduate involvement in faculty research through the S3IP Undergraduate Research Initiative, which provides undergraduate students the opportunity to participate as research project assistants for a Binghamton University faculty member's research program. Student participants receive a $2,000 stipend. Faculty members in any discipline who are engaged in research relevant to S3IP's mission are encouraged to apply. Faculty submit an application which describes a research project on which the undergraduate could assist them during the spring, 2013 semester. S3IP's goal is to expose students to the reality of academic scholarship in their undergraduate years, so students should be included as much as feasible in all phases of the project, although they are not required to play a leading or independent role. Project descriptions (500-word maximum) should include the project aim, relevance to S3IP vision and mission, and student responsibilities and duties. Project descriptions should also include a brief statement of what the student will gain from participating in the project. Preference will be given to applications that involve a student underrepresented in the engineering and sciences. The student's resume should be included.

Applications are due November 30, 2012. Selections will be made by December 21, 2012 by the S3IP Director. Funds should be expended by May 31, 2013.

Completed applications should be submitted to the Small Scale Systems Integration and Packaging Center, PO Box 6000, Binghamton, NY 13902-6000, or emailed to Cathy Krajnyak, krajnyak@binghamton.edu.

Please contact Mary Beth Curtin, mcurtin@binghamton.edu, 777-7270, if you have any questions or need any additional information.
