 Ricardo René Larémont is Professor of Political Science and Sociology at SUNY Binghamton and a Carnegie Corporation Scholar on Islam. He has served on the faculty of SUNY Binghamton since 1997. He obtained his Ph.D from Yale University, his J.D. from New York University School of Law, and his B.A cum laude from New YorkUniversity School of Arts and Science. His principal books include: Revolution, Revolt,and Reform in North Africa; Islam and the Politics of Resistance in Algeria, 1783-1992 ;Islamic Law and Politics in Northern Nigeria; Borders, Nationalism, and the AfricanState; and, The Causes of War and the Consequences of Peacekeeping in Africa. His research focuses upon political Islam, Islamic law, conflict resolution, democratization, and civil/military relations, usually in the region of North Africa and the Sahel.
