Preparing the Next Generation of Leaders

The dynamics of the global environment demand leaders who can successively meet future challenges. The School of Management has designed a curriculum to prepare you with the essential skill set needed to be competitive in today's rapidly changing corporate, non-profit or public sectors. The next generation of leaders will be expected to combine technical competence with a keen sense of the skills necessary for effective persuasion and negotiation. Consequently, Binghamton's MBA instills a generalist perspective, integrating business fundamentals to bring about creative solutions that are new, different and better.

Obtain a Systematic View

While academic learning contributes to expertise in a specific subject matter, the most successful leaders must be able to synthesize their learning and apply it in complex situations. Contemporary business themes are explored in a variety of teaching methods from unusual interdisciplinary perspectives. You will learn not only how to address a specific problem, but also how to understand the implications of that decision on the entire organization, a perspective that plays a significant role in the success of every business. Our MBA program will expand your career options by preparing you with skills most valued by employers.

Understanding the Implications of Business Decisions

While academic learning contributes to expertise in a specific subject matter, the most successful leaders must be able to synthesize their learning and apply it in complex situations.  Contemporary business themes are explored in a variety of teaching methods from unusual interdisciplinary perspectives.  You will learn not only to address a specific problem but to understand the implications of that decision on the entire organization.

Developing Team Skills From Day One

In most organizations today, decisions are rarely made autonomously, but rather by multi-functional teams that cross traditional boundaries.  At Binghamton, you will learn in an environment similar to that of the contemporary workplace.  The ability to communicate, take initiative and effectively motivate others is essential to team-based learning.  We have designed a learning environment that promotes effective teamwork, which translates into getting ahead in your career.  Exercises in group dynamics, interpersonal communication, and conflict resolution prepare you for various situations in the workplace, whether they call for you to be team leader or a team player.

Team skills are developed and refined from day one. The orientation program builds the framework from the very moment you arrive on campus by building a strong community of mutual support. The program starts off with intensive teambuilding, creative problem solving and social networking, as well as a review of how to maximize the benefits of the academic resources on campus.

In addition to learning the teamwork concepts, you will identify individual strengths and weaknesses in key areas of management effectiveness. This introspective exercise will provide an understanding of personal leadership style. Through this interaction during the orientation program, classmates benefit from the rich diversity of their personal and professional experiences.

The global era requires progressive leaders who can successfully meet the challenges of a rapidly changing world economy. Our team-based programs are aimed at training creative and competent leaders, equipped with an understanding of their environment and the ability to lead the change process.

Through advanced academic research, our faculty members stand at the cutting edge of their disciplines and are widely known for their teaching excellence.

SOM makes a serious commitment to students selected for our graduate programs. Our programs foster a close learning environment among our students, who come from all over the globe. In addition, our small class size enables faculty to know the students by name.
