Admissions
Only a very limited number of students are admitted to the doctoral program each year in the fall; thus, applicants accepted for admission must have strong academic achievement records.
Applicants to the doctoral program should hold an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university. An MBA or MS accouning degree from an accredited university is preferred, although outstanding students with an undergraduate degree will be considered. The School of Management seeks applicants who can pursue the doctoral degree on a full-time basis and welcomes applicants from those with strong liberal arts backgrounds as well as those with engineering, science, mathematics, business, or other related degrees.
Applicants typically should have a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 in undergraduate work and 3.5 in graduate work and generally should score at least 630 on the GMAT. International students from non-English-speaking graduate or undergraduate institutions must take the TOEFL exam and receive a score of 600 or higher for consideration for admission. Work experience is not required, but is preferred generally. Applicants are also required to submit a personal statement along with two letters of recommendation. The Director of the doctoral program and the Doctoral Admissions Committee consider applicants on a case-by-case basis. Personal or telephone interviews are conducted with applicants; campus visits are encouraged whenever feasible. Initial decisions on applications are generally made by March 15.
Students with masters' degrees in other disciplines need not complete an MBA, but must take or have taken the graduate level foundation coursework in the following areas: Accounting, Finance, Management Information Systems, Marketing, Operations Management and Organizational Behaviour. Students may take such foundation course work prior to or concurrent with their doctoral course work.
