The 2008-2009 MAINSTAGE SEASON The Theatre Department promises a future season filled with an array of theater experiences. The tradition of high caliber mainstage productions continues this fall as we present an offbeat season that includes a dark comedy, a Tony-award winning ‘revolutionary' musical, a fantastical farce, and a lyrical tragedy of a family in Spain.
The House of Yes – It's Thanksgiving and a hurricane is swirling outside in the affluent DC suburbs. The Pascal home, however, has its own storm brewing indoors. Charismatic Marty has brought his sweet, unsophisticated fiancée Lesly home to meet the family. Marty's twin, the beautiful and spoiled Jackie-O, isn't taking the surprise well. Jealous and awkward younger brother Anthony attempts to make Lesly feel at home, while Marty and Jackie-O reminisce about their unusual childhood - a darkly funny script,.Directed by Tom Kremer.
Urinetown, the musical - Winner of several 2002 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Original Score and Best Book of a Musical and one of the most uproariously funny musicals in recent years; Urinetown is a hilarious tale of greed, corruption, love, and revolution in a time when water is worth its weight in gold. In a Gotham-like city, a terrible water shortage caused by a 20-year draught has led to a governmentenforced ban on private toilets. Amid the people, a hero decides he's had enough, and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom! Subversive and sassy, Urinetown brilliantly pokes cheerful fun at all the clichés of Broadway musicals, while cashing in on their bestbits. You've got to go! Directed by Anne Brady.
Fuddy Meers - Full of as many kooky characters as a carnival funhouse, Fuddy Meers is a day in the life of Claire who has a rare form of amnesiathat erases her memory whenever she falls asleep. With the help of her husband and a little scrapbook, she begins reconstructing herlife. The play culminates in a cacophony of revelations, proving that everything is not what it appears to be. Join us for a wild adventure down amnesia lane! Directed by Tom Kremer.
The House of Bernarda Alba - Political yet private, The House of Bernarda Alba tests the constraints of social customs, the family, and love in rural Spain. Following the death of her second husband, Bernarda Alba mandates an eight-year period of mourning for her household. When the oldest daughter is courted for her inheritance by the most handsome man in the village, jealous passions flare among the five daughters. Nonetheless, Bernarda Alba rules with an iron fist and the results of her reign prove staggering. This production will be directed by Visiting Artist Rodrigo Núñez from Duoc UC, Santiago, Chile
