Former Binghamton University President Nominated as Interim President

C. Peter Magrath, who served as president of Binghamton University from 1972-1974, has been nominated by SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher to serve as interim president of Binghamton University while a national search is underway for a permanent hire.

Zimpher made the announcement at a news conference May 20, held at the University's Biotechnology Building. In making the announcement, Zimpher said Magrath's "most compelling attribute is his long history of academic leadership at like-minded research universities."

Magrath is expected to be unanimously approved for the interim position at the June meeting of the SUNY Board of Trustees. He will assume his duties on July 1, and noted that he expects to "hit the ground running" and said his mission "is to promote the further development and forward progress of Binghamton University."
