President Harvey G. Stenger updates the campus on current plans and challenges
On Jan. 24, Binghamton University President Harvey G. Stenger gave his first University Forum address to a packed house, outlining a timeline that will culminate with the development of a strategic plan. In the short term, Stenger is meeting with members of the University, community leaders and key supporters. From March to September, he will to bring together a team of faculty, staff, administrators, students and external constituents to develop the strategic plan. Implementation will begin in September. Stenger noted that elements of the strategic plan already exist and will be woven into the final model, including Binghamton's NYSUNY 2020 proposal. New York state has not yet approved the University's NYSUNY 2020 proposal, but Stenger expects to receive the support of Gov. Andrew Cuomo soon. The proposal would allow Binghamton to implement the rational tuition policy approved by the state legislature last year and will provide Binghamton University $35 million in state support for capital projects.
