Retiree Impact

Because Binghamton University employs a large number of staff within both Broome and Tioga counties, there are also significant numbers of retirees living in the area.

Table 4 indicates that retirees' expenditures exceeded $4.8 million this last fiscal year and that this spending produced an estimated 91 jobs in the region and 109 total jobs in New York State.


Overall and Net Impact

After calculating the total impact on jobs as a result of Binghamton University associated expenditures, indirect spending, and retirees, the chart below shows that these expenditures were responsible for 3,753 full and part-time jobs in the Binghamton region and 5,241 full and part-time jobs in New York State beyond those jobs at the university itself. xiii
