Overall and Net Impact

After calculating the total impact on jobs as a result of direct expenditures by Binghamton University and indirect spending attributed to students and visitors, these expenditures were responsible for supporting an additional 5,545 full- and part-time jobs in the Binghamton region and 5,769 total full- and part-time jobs in New York state beyond those jobs at the University itself.ix

Table 4 below illustrates the impact on jobs by the direct expenditure categories of sales/wages/benefits, purchases of goods and services, and capital expenditures on new buildings and maintenance. This able also shows the effect on job resulting from spending by Binghamton University students and visitors.
