Events Center
From the minute it officially opened its doors in 2004, Binghamton University’s Events Center has made a huge impression on the thousands of visitors who come to the campus each year. From comfortably seating hordes of fans at a Bob Dylan concert to hosting the biggest antiques trade shows in the region, the Events Center has become one the region’s premier destinations for sporting, cultural and campus events.
“The Events Center is one of the largest facility’s of its kind in central New York state,” said Eric Backlund, director of conferences and events services. “And as such, we have a prime opportunity to add to the quality of life in our community, both on and off campus. We take this responsibility very seriously and work hard to ensure that the events, performances and activities we bring to the region are all top-notch.”
And the efforts of Eric and his team are paying off. During 2009-10, the Events Center hosted over 80 events, ranging from University activities such as commencement and job fairs to the New York State Special Olympics and the Odyssey of the Mind contest. And you can be sure that attendees at these events contributed fairly significantly to the regional economic impact of University visitor spending which in 2009-10, exceeded $7 million.
