Critical Language Scholarship Program
The program offers intensive summer language institutes abroad in thirteen critical need foreign languages. These are 7 to 10 week institutes in Arabic, Persian, Azerbaijani, Bangla/Bengali, Hindi, Indonesian, Korean, Punjabi, Turkish, Urdu, Chinese, Japanese and Russian (languages may change from year to year).
Davis Fellowship for Summer Language Study
Fellowship covers the full cost (tuition, room, and board) of summer language study from beginner to graduate level in Arabic, Chinese, Hebrew, Japanese, Portuguese, and Russian at the Middlebury College Language Schools. These are merit-based and intended for qualified individuals with interest in one or more of the following areas: international, global, or area studies; international politics and economics; peace and security studies; and/or conflict resolution.
National Geographic Young Explorers Grants
National Geographic provides seed grants to individuals ages 18 to 25 in the fields it has a rich history of supporting. Grant amounts generally range between $2,000 and $5,000. Applicants are not required to have advanced degrees. However, any relevant record or prior experience in the fields of research, conservation, or exploration should be submitted.
Summer Research Opportunities Program (SROP)
A gateway to graduate education at CIC universities. The goal of the program is to increase the number of underrepresented students who pursue graduate study and research careers ( students from racial and ethnic minority groups and first-generation students are strongly encouraged to apply). Preference is given to students completing their junior year, although outstanding sophomores are considered for admission as well. Program helps prepare undergraduates for graduate study through intensive research experiences with faculty mentors and enrichment activities. Program is not for students pursuing professional degrees such as law, medical, and MBA degrees. Students who have completed an undergraduate degree are not eligible.
