Interested in Pursuing Research?

Students interested in pursuing research, scholarship or creative work should start by learning more about the research and creative accomplishments of faculty in your area of interest. In this section, you will find the links you need to read about Binghamton's academic units and our faculty scholars, researchers and artists.

In addition to reading about faculty, you will get to know them during classes and office hours. Ask them about their research or creative activities. If their scholarly or creative work interests you, ask if you can become involved as a volunteer or for credit. This experience may lead to independent research projects, and sometimes opportunities for honors research. Pursuing honors in your major provides you the opportunity to learn a great deal about the conduct of professional work in your area. It gives you the chance to experience what a professional in your field does.

Other ways to learn about scholarly activity in a department/program are to speak with the undergraduate director or undergraduate advisor, and some units have peer advisors. Some departments sponsor weekly seminars where faculty or visiting scholars present papers on their research. Some units have undergraduate clubs or organizations that sponsor lectures, workshops, and career information sessions.
