Dr. Krishnaswami "Hari" Srihari

Hari

Distinguished Professor Krishnaswami “Hari” Srihari was appointed dean of the Thomas J. Watson School of Engineering and Applied Science at Binghamton University in June 2009. A prolific scientist, Srihari is known as an expert in many diverse aspects of electronics packaging and manufacturing. Over the last decade at Binghamton, he has also pioneered research focused on the use of systems engineering principles in enhancing efficiency in health care delivery.

Srihari joined the faculty of the Watson School in 1988 where he served most recently as chairman of the Department of Systems Science and Industrial Engineering. He has played a key role in creation of University-industry partnerships as director of the Watson Institute of Systems Excellence (WISE) and associate director of the Integrated Electronics Engineering Center (IEEC).

Srihari earned his bachelor's degree with honors in production engineering from the University of Madras, India and his master's and doctorate in industrial engineering and operations research from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

He has published over 400 technical papers in leading peer-reviewed journals and at conferences, and authored over 950 technical reports. He has directed and graduated over 175 graduate students, both at the MS and the PhD level. WISE, the institute for advanced studies that he directs, currently includes over 70 graduate students along with several faculty and staff. Srihari has secured over $30 million dollars in external sponsorship and typically, at any one time, his research team works with over 20 research sponsors.

Srihari holds the academic rank of distinguished professor. The distinguished professor title, granted only by SUNY trustees, is the highest academic rank possible and is conferred on individuals who have achieved national or international prominence. He has also been recognized with the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Scholarship and Creative Activities.
