Fast facts about Watson

Founded in 1983, the Thomas J. Watson School of Engineering and Applied Science at Binghamton University is the fastest-growing engineering program in New York state. With an innovative curriculum and real-world approach, we offer bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral programs in eight fields of study.

Location

The Watson School is located in Vestal, N.Y., in close proximity to the state’s top high-tech industries and a three-hour drive from New York City.

Student Body

We attract a diverse group of approximately 2,500 students from all over the world which includes more than 1,700 undergraduates, 500 students pursuing their master’s degrees and more than 200 doctoral students.

Faculty

Classes at Watson are taught by dedicated faculty members with both industry and research expertise. The faculty includes 82 full-time professors with a wide range of research interests. In 2009, our faculty achieved the unique distinction of four NSF faculty Early Career Development Program awards and a Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers.

Research

Research programs play an integral role in both graduate and undergraduate studies at Watson, with more than 100 graduate students supported on sponsored research awards. Research projects span the disciplines and often lead to breakthrough results.

Alumni

The Watson School’s 10,000-plus alumni live across the world and serve as leaders in fields ranging from mechanical engineering to hospital operations to the law.

Undergraduates may apply for scholarships and financial aid through the University’s Office of Financial Aid Services. http://bingfa.binghamton.edu/ At the graduate level, funding opportunities — including research assistantships, teaching assistantships, fellowships, grants, loans, and work study — are handled by individual academic departments.
