Licensed professional engineers work in a world of evolving technology, increased consumer expectations and other emerging issues. Practice in this changing environment requires ongoing development of knowledge and skills. It is critical that licensees remain current with changes and developments in the profession to render quality services and to ensure public protection.
Binghamton University's Watson School is pleased to offer continuing education courses for professional engineers.
Simulation is one of the most widely used operations research and management science techniques. It has been used to design and optimize processes and systems. Simulation is especially beneficial for exploring what-if scenarios (e.g., reallocating operators to reduce travel/ material-handling time; optimizing facility layout and design for improved product flow) to see if you get the benefits you expected before you make the investment. Key industry applications of modeling and simulation also include construction scheduling; logistics & operations; resource allocation; supply chain optimization; and risk management. This course will cover key elements of discrete event system modeling and simulation including:
This course has been approved for 6 PDH from the New York State Society of Professional Engineers. A certificate of completion will be given to participants at the conclusion of the course listing. The Department of Systems Science and Industrial Engineering in the Thomas J. Watson School of Engineering and Applied Science at Binghamton University is ABET accredited.
Sarah Lam, Ph.D., Associate Professor in the Department of Systems Science and Industrial Engineering in the Thomas J. Watson School of Engineering and Applied Science at Binghamton University (BU). Dr. Lam has actively engaged with companies such as Endicott Interconnect, IBM, and Xerox during her position as Assistant Director for Systems Analysis and Modeling for the Watson Institute for Systems Excellence (WISE) as well as in her role as Faculty Investigator with Strategic Partnership for Industrial Resurgence (SPIR).
