Professional Bio

I am interested in optimization for NP-Hard and NP-complete problems. Most of my work is applied to VLSI physical design automation, but I am also working on problems in biology and cryptography. I am currently the vice chair of ACM/SIGDA, the design automation special interest group, and an associate editor for IEEE Transactions on Computer-Aided Design. From May 2004 until the start of fall 2005, I was on sabbatical in Japan at the University of Kitakyushu. During that time, I worked on chapters for three upcoming textbooks, and upgraded the code in my group's feng shui placement tool.
