Sharon Fellows has been in the Engineering Design Division for over a dozen years. Her experience in curriculum and program design was influential in her being hired from the University's Department of English by the Watson School. She worked on the original design for the freshman engineering program and has taught the Technical Communications component for 10 years. She has served as interim director as well as assistant director of the program. Fellows is also the faculty adviser for the Society of Women Engineers. She begins her 15th year in EDD in the fall of 2009.
Fellows began her PhD in rhetoric and composition at the University of New Hampshire. She later transferred her program to the University of South Florida while teaching in the Freshman Composition Program at
the University of Tampa.
Fellows received a scholarship from the New Hampshire Commission on the Arts to attend the Oxford University Summer Program in England to study the art and literature of the British landscape through the novels of Jane Austen.
Fellows has a master's degree in Education Administration and Counseling from the University of Maine and her
bachelor's degree in Teacher Education from the University of New Hampshire.
She also earned a master's degree in Rhetoric and Composition and Curriculum Design from Goddard College in Plainfield, Vt. Goddard College is a pioneer in student-centered, experimental, innovative and progressive education.
"I had always read about and knew about Goddard College. Being an advocate of student-centered pedagogy and interdisciplinary education eventually led me toward pursuing a second master's degree at Goddard. It was one of the best educational experiences of my life and deepened my commitment to progressive education," Fellows said.
She has been nominated for several teaching awards and is a recipient of the Chancellor's Award for Outstanding Service as a faculty member. She has written many articles on engineering education and presents papers annually at major engineering conferences.
